Join us as we recount their awe-inspiring adventure through the rugged terrains of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, where the mountains stood tall, and their commitment to Signhealth stood even taller.
Chapter 1: Ben Nevis – The Highland Giant
Their epic journey unfolded on the 26th of August 2017, a date etched in their memories, as they began the National Three Peaks Challenge. At the break of dawn, the trio emerged from their tents, ready to conquer the rugged terrains of Ben Nevis, England’s Scafell Pike, and Wales’s Snowdon. Their mission? Not only to summit these majestic peaks but also to raise funds for Signhealth, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of deaf people.
With a sense of purpose and determination, they set out for Ben Nevis, the first of their monumental climbs. Their adventure kicked off at precisely 9 am, under the early morning light. What made this start even more remarkable was that the natural lighting was sufficient, and they didn’t require headlamps. The misty landscape added an aura of mystery to the ascent, and as they trekked upwards, their boots crunching on rocky paths, they embraced the tranquility of the early morning.
In an impressive feat of endurance and willpower, the team completed their route of Ben Nevis in just 4 hours and 20 minutes. Their swiftness set a promising tone for the challenges that awaited them on Scafell Pike and Snowdon.
After this initial triumph, they embarked on a 5-hour and 34-minute journey in the car, making their way south to England’s Lake District for their next adventure on Scafell Pike. The hours in the car were filled with anticipation, camaraderie, and the knowledge that every passing mile brought them closer to their next peak and their fundraising goals.
Chapter 2: Scafell Pike – England’s Tallest Peak
With 10 hours and 10 minutes already passed on the clock, the trio arrived at the base of Scafell Pike. The weather had taken a turn, and although the skies remained cloudy, they were blessed with dry conditions. Their journey had been a whirlwind of anticipation and camaraderie, with every passing moment bringing them closer to their next challenge.
They wasted no time and launched into their ascent of Scafell Pike. Despite the clouds obscuring the sun, the landscape of England’s tallest peak revealed its unique character. The steep ascents and tricky navigation were met with the same unwavering resolve that had carried them through Ben Nevis. Every step was filled with excitement, knowing that they had only one more peak to conquer after this.
In an impressive display of determination and teamwork, the team completed their ascent of Scafell Pike in just under 4 hours. Their excitement grew as they realised that only one more peak remained in their epic National Three Peaks Challenge. They had come this far, and the thought of the final summit, Snowdon, beckoning them from across the Welsh border, filled them with renewed energy and resolve.
Chapter 3: Snowdon – The Welsh Triumph
With their ascent of Scafell Pike behind them and 10 hours and 10 minutes elapsed, the team embarked on the next leg of their adventure, driving to Llanberis, the gateway to the Snowdon summit. Despite the passage of time, their determination burned brightly, fueled by their shared purpose of supporting Signhealth. The car journey, spanning 3 hours and 55 minutes, led them to Llanberis, where they arrived at 3:15 am.
As they stepped out of the car, they were greeted by the stillness of the early morning, and the mountains loomed majestically in the pre-dawn darkness. With 5 hours and 45 minutes left on the clock, the team knew they had a challenging yet achievable goal ahead of them—to summit Snowdon and complete their National Three Peaks Challenge.
The ascent of Snowdon began under the cloak of darkness. They navigated the winding paths and rocky terrain, each step drawing them closer to the pinnacle of their journey. The sun began its ascent in the east, casting hues of orange and pink across the horizon. The team walked in awe, not only of the stunning scenery but also of their own triumphs and the funds they were raising for Signhealth.
As the first rays of sunlight broke over the mountaintops, they reached the summit of Snowdon. Their hearts swelled with pride and accomplishment, knowing that they had conquered the final peak of their challenge. With the sunrise as their backdrop, they began their descent, the descent of champions who had overcome every obstacle in their path.
Their journey culminated back at their base, where they arrived in 22 hours and 34 minutes, completing the National Three Peaks Challenge. Their dedication to Signhealth had not only driven them forward but had also raised over £500 for this vital cause.
Special thanks were due to Thomas Maher, their driver for the National Three Peaks Challenge. His unwavering support and dedication had been instrumental in their success, ensuring they could focus on the summits and the mission to make a difference.
As they reflected on their incredible journey, they knew that it was more than just conquering peaks; it was about breaking boundaries, pushing limits, and making a positive impact on the lives of others. Their National Three Peaks Challenge had been a triumph of spirit and a testament to what can be achieved when a team comes together with a shared vision and unwavering determination.
