Day 5: The Journey Begins – Awaiting, Flying, and Trekking

Day 5 of Michael’s Summit adventure was a day of anticipation and the start of a remarkable journey into the heart of the Himalayas. This day was marked by bustling airports, exhilarating flights, and the first steps on the trail to the towering peaks.

Arriving at Ramechhap airport, the scene was a whirlwind of activity. The previous flight cancellations had created a bottleneck of eager trekkers, all waiting for their chance to reach Lukla. The queue had grown as everyone yearned for their opportunity to embark on this incredible adventure.

Finally, at the front of the line, Michael boarded the plane that would take him to Lukla. Lukla is renowned as the highest-altitude airport in the world, with a notoriously short runway. The flight was an adventure in itself, and successfully landing on that tiny airstrip was an achievement in its own right.

Deplaning in Lukla, Michael took a moment to watch the plane as it soared back into the sky. The realisation began to sink in – the trekking had officially begun, and there was no time to waste.

With determination in his step, the team set off on the trail to Phakding, situated at an elevation of 2,610 meters. This was the first leg of their journey, a chance to acclimatise and ease into the challenges of the Himalayas. The path was alive with the same sense of adventure that had drawn them to this place.

As the day drew to a close, they reached the Green Village Guest House, their shelter for the night. The cosy vibes and camaraderie with fellow trekkers who shared the same vision of exploring the Himalayas added to the sense of anticipation and unity. It was another opportunity to acclimatise further and prepare for the next phase of the journey – Namche Bazaar, which lay at an altitude of 3,440 meters.

As we close this day’s adventure, I want to extend my sincere thanks to our incredible sponsors. Your steadfast support has been an invaluable part of this journey, and we are deeply grateful. A heartfelt thank you to Admiral Carpets, Signly, Action Deafness, WP Ability, SEA Recruitment, TrekAdvisor, Lipspeaker UK, SignSolutions, and Adventure Pursuit.
