Day 3 of Michael’s Summit adventure began in Kathmandu, a city teeming with vibrant life and the gateway to the majestic Himalayas. The day was marked by preparations, acclimatisation, and a deep sense of anticipation.
Awaking in Kathmandu, Michael felt a surge of excitement. With a notification that he had already acclimated to 23% of the elevation at 4,314 meters, he was in great spirits. The journey was well underway, and he was eager for what lay ahead.
The day started with a hearty breakfast that would provide the necessary fuel for the day’s activities. It was then that Michael’s guide from Trek Advisor greeted him with a thoughtful gift – sponsor tags and caps adorned with “Michael’s Summit.” These tokens of support were not only practical but also a reminder of the incredible journey Michael was embarking on.
With gratitude in his heart, Michael set off for the local hiking shop, Hi-Himal. The shop was a treasure trove of mountaineering equipment, with gear of all kinds hanging from the walls. Here, Michael gathered the essential equipment he needed, including lock carabiners, a sleeping bag, ropes, and 14-teeth crampons to ensure secure footing on snow-covered ascents.
As he walked through the bustling streets of Kathmandu, the weight of his preparations and the excitement of the journey ahead was tangible. Arriving back at the hotel, he had a final meeting with the team. This was a moment to confirm plans and discuss the ever-important weather conditions, which held the key to their flight to Lukla.
With uncertainty looming over the flight due to weather conditions, a backup plan was also prepared – a helicopter ride to Lukla. Michael remained confident and prepared for whatever the journey might bring. Seated with the team, they examined the route ahead, discussing the challenges and opportunities that lay on the path to their destination.
After the meeting, Michael returned to his hotel room to have a well-deserved rest. It was time to pack two bags – one for himself and one for the porter who would accompany him on this incredible journey. With everything set and ready, he took the opportunity to rest and further acclimatise at an elevation of 2,800 meters.
The day was coming to a close, and Michael looked forward to a new day with the hope of favorable weather for the flight to Lukla. With preparations in place and his spirit undaunted, he eagerly awaited the next chapter of this remarkable adventure.
